OPENAI released an AI text classifier.

The creators of ChatGPT, just got in their own way.

This is a necessary evil

AI is arguably a helpful but not necessary evil, regardless it is here.

Many concerns were raised about whether chatGPT would prevent students from working, lay off employees, and dominate the content market, but that will no longer be the top concern.

With new AI text classifiers like ZeroGPT by Princeton student Edward Tian and now an AI text classifier from OPENAI, the days of prompting ChatGPT to write an entire essay for you are over.

As much of a party pooper this is, it is extremely important.

There is a moral dilemma of whether we should value the art AI creates, the text it writes, and the movies it directs because it doesn’t have that human connection behind it; it is quite literally manufactured [with a suspect level of artistic talent behind it].

I believe that we should have the choice to know whether something was human-made or AI-generated, the same way products all seemingly say where it was manufactured. We should have the individual autonomy to decide who or what to support.

Transparency has been a topic of conversation in the case of personal data, to extent that entirely new industries of opened up like Crypto, Web 3, and Decentralized Networks (networks that don’t have one person in control but rather everyone has the power).

I do fully support the use of AI as a tool, but we need to come to the logical conclusion that if we use AI to:

  • cheat on essays, we will just have another challenging assignment introduced
  • do work for us, we will eventually get outsourced and laid off
  • create art for us, we will eventually have a famine of art from the heart

AI is a tool. If we do not constantly remind ourselves of this, then we will eventually become the tool for AI.

It is a natural progression, in this case, to go from thinking “This AI is so helpful; it does my work for me.” to “Let me insert my personal data from today to make the AI more accurate for everyone.”

There is a solution to this.

An AI text classifier may not be the solution, sure.

Patience is key. AI JUST became this big hot new topic, so let’s allow each other to brainstorm and theorize the best way of going about this societal shifting technology.
