Dudes. It doesn’t have to be Bateman or Batman.

Patrick Bateman from American Psycho (Left) The Batman (Right)

There is a new trend on tik tok and around the sIgMa MaLe community…

Embody or LARP (live-action role play) Batman or Bateman.

I am not going to theorize why everyone feels an innate desire to be someone else, but it seems to be a trend.

It is easier to play a character than be your own person.

The script is already written for you.

But that’s so boring and unfulfilling.

Why set out to become the greatest <someone else>?

You were born at this time/place/era/in that body for a reason.

You have your own gifts and personality (not going to argue whether it’s more nature/nurture) for a reason.

I am willing to bet that reason is not to be a quiet, psychopathic Stockbroker or a lonely, probably a little depressed, superhero that somehow attained billions in fortune.

You don’t need to imagine yourself as someone else to get into a particular focus/discipline mode or whatever you do it for. (Although it can be a strategy, if taken too far, it gets toxic)

I write this mainly for my younger self. I am not targeting any of you dudes.

I am somehow progressively getting worse at writing. I take pride in that.
